The Council for Educational Change $10,000 Leonard Miller Principal Leadership Award Application

DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MONDAY OCTOBER 13!

This application can be submitted by the Principal or another on behalf of the Principal, such as school staff, partner, or community member.  This application is available in a reader version, available below, for you to review before starting.  Only attachments requested in the application are allowed. The application must be submitted by Oct. 6, 2008.

Council programs/activities: PASS, Executive PASS, Florida Leadership Academy, Florida Leadership Academy Historian Project, ASAP/ELA, Assistant Principal Leadership Forum (sent a school AP to attend), Wachovia Teachers and Teaching Initiative, SPSnapshot, and SUPI. (The Council is a MDCPS SUPI Partner.)

D. Award Criteria

In this section, you will provide information about the Principal’s accomplishments in the Award’s three criteria: 1) increased student achievement, 2) empowerment/development of staff, and 3) engagement of meaningful business and community partnerships. No attachments other than those requested are allowed.

Criteria 1: INCREASED STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

Describe how your school increased student achievement and accomplished academic gains and growth, sharing the Principal’s leadership role in this effort. (300 word limit). Please note that the required attachments for this section will report your FCAT and AYP achievement information.

Criteria 2: EMPOWERMENT AND DEVELOPMENT OF SCHOOL STAFF

This section captures information about the Principal’s leadership in building capacity for effective teaching and learning.

Please focus on instructional leadership and include an illustration, such as a teacher given a special leadership role or unique staff development strategy, and describe the result. (300 word limit)

Please attach a letter from a staff member who benefited from the Principal’s leadership in developing and empowering staff. Please include results. One page limit.

Criteria 3: ENGAGEMENT OF BUSINESS & COMMUNITIY PARTNERSHIPS

This section captures information about the Principal’s leadership in recruiting and involving partners to support the school community, school improvement and increased student achievement.

Provide an illustration of a partnership, including the impact. (300 word limit)

Please attach a letter from an active business partner concerning the Principal’s leadership in the area of partnership. One page limit.
